Children at Epiphany

At Epiphany UCC we know how important it is to include all members of our congregation into worship, and that's why we are so proud of the variety of options we offer to our youngest members. For our infants and toddlers we offer a nursery full of fun and engaging toys with both adult supervision and high school student volunteers who love to nurture and support their community.
During the worship service we have comfy pillows set up at the alter and invite our children to come forward to be a part of the beginning of worship in the front and then the extended children's time. During the children's moment you might hear a child read scripture, sing a song, or have a story read. We also provide separate children's bulletins so the kids can follow along in kids friendly format and language.
From there children ages five to 10 are invited downstairs for Sunday school. We now encourage older children to stay in worship service and participate. Research shows that children who learn from an early age how to effectively participate and feel engaged in the full worship community have a greater chance of continuing to stay active with their faith even after confirmation.
For our younger children our weekly Sunday school programming includes a variety of modalities including: reader's theater, painting, puzzle making, singing, games, and fun crafts all centered on scripture or lessons about God's love. We believe it is important firstly that Sunday school be a time where children feel loved a valued - that we become a space where they encounter God through our commitment to treat them with care. Then we hope that the lessons about faith, trust, kindness, and generosity help them find ways to act as young Christians in their own lives when they leave our doors.
We have additionally have special performances, including a Christmas play the past year called "The Birthday Party" where anyone who was interested was invited to participate at any level.
Finally, for our older students we offer both confirmation classes and a youth group REYG (Ravenswood and Epiphany Youth Group). We meet once a month to particiapte in both fun and faith-filled activities including lock-ins, holiday parties, peace marches, national conferences, and fun away trips.
We would love to meet your family and have your child participate in any of the many forms of worship we offer. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either the pastor or the children's minister who would be happy to talk further.
